A well-informed person is better able to protect him/herself from falling victim to lies and exploitation. For this reason, our preventative activities aim to deliver useful information in an appropriate form to those who need it.

These activities are aimed primarily at:
· The wider public, with the view to raising general awareness of human trafficking and exploitation.
· Groups at particular risk, with the view to informing them of the risks of human trafficking and exploitation, as well as arming them with ways to protect themselves and, if needs must, contacts for those they can turn to for help.
· People who have already been trafficked or exploited, with the view to making sure that this does not happen again.
An important link with the target groups comes in the form of their social surroundings and the specialists who may come into contact with them there. For this reason, friends, relatives and specialist personnel are all also target groups for our preventative and educative activities.

A basic value of our preventative work is that all individuals should be respected and treated equally as far as human rights are concerned. We believe in the right of the individual to make his/her own life choices. The aim of our preventative work is not to talk people out of going abroad for work, nor is it to talk people out of working in the sex business. We want to provide quality information and support so that our clients can make well-considered, informed, but completely independent, decisions about their lives – that is what we regards as our role.

Our preventative work comprises of:

  • An advisory service offered over the phone, by mail or in person.
  • Field work.
  • Creating and distributing preventative materials.
  • Maintaining contact with the media and publishing articles.
  • Workshops and lectures. The creation of training programmes and methodological documents
Field work

La Strada has carried out its systematic practice of field work in several parts of the Czech Republic.

La Strada understands such work as a specific form of intervention into the target group’s surroundings which is born of the methods and principals of social work in the field and social work in general.

One part of the organization’s field work aims to collect information with the end goal of creating a useful and pertinent set of prevention materials which address the real needs of the target group.
Information materials are disseminated in a range of languages. They contain general information about the organization’s activities, the sort of help it can offer and contact details.

Within the field work materials, brochures and preventative items such as lighters and mirrors are distributed by field workers, including a consultant and an interpreter.
These materials all have the organization’s logo and contacts for the INFO and SOS help lines.
