Advocacy means the promotion of one’s ideas and aims. Another meaning is ‘speaking in someone or something’s favour’.
The aim of the advocacy work that our organisation does is to offer a voice to our clients and make sure that their rights and interests are upheld. We advocate a systematic set of measures to eliminate the factors which increase people’s vulnerability to human trafficking and exploitation. Equally important are the organisation’s attempts to increase people’s understanding of the issue through research and monitoring, and through adding our experience to expert discussion on the topic.

A basic value of our organisation is the protection and enforcement of human rights, and the conviction that these rights apply to every human being regardless of their background.
The stigmatisation and marginalisation of some groups of society disable these people from asserting and protecting their rights. Undocumented migrants and those working in the sex business should be equally able to assert their rights as any other individual.

The battle against human trafficking at the moment often places the emphasis on the arrest of the perpetrators and protection from unwanted waves of migration. This can often be to the detriment of the group at risk and trafficked people’s rights. On the other hand, placing an emphasis on the enforcement of human rights can have a significant effect on attempts to prevent human trafficking and intervene. The infringement of human rights is one of the causes, as well as a result and main characteristic of human trafficking. It is for this reason that we believe, if a complex solution to the problem is to be found, a human-rights orientated approach is the right one.

Our advocacy work comprises of:

  • The collection, analysis and publication of information about human trafficking and exploitation.
  • Presentations, case-studies and recommendations for both Czech and international institutions.
  • Participation in both domestic and foreign working groups.
  • Developing and maintaining media contacts and contact with partner organisations both in the Czech Republic and abroad
